Have you ever wondered how businesses come up with their logos?
Well, it's not just a matter of picking a pretty picture but a careful process of ideation, design, and color selection.
Recently, we at webdew decided it was time for a new logo and embarked on a journey to revamp our brand identity. This involved several stages of brainstorming, designing, and tweaking until we arrived at the perfect design.
In this article, I'll take you behind the scenes of webdew's logo redesign process and show you how we transformed our old logo into a new and improved version that better reflects who we are.
So get ready to discover the art of logo redesign!
Redesign process: Behind the scenes
Stage 1: Ideation
When we decided to redesign our logo, the first stage was ideation. We wanted a logo that would better represent who we are as an organization and our brand values. So, we began brainstorming and playing around with different concepts.
Concept 1
One of the concepts we tried was inspired by the Batman logo. We thought of using three W's that would turn into three birds flying in formation, with the upper W flying up and splitting the two below. This would form our logo name in a mirror image.
While this concept was interesting, it didn't quite fit our brand personality and goals.
Concept 2
Another concept we explored was a globe-like design. We wanted to convert our Web icon lines into taro leaves veins, creating a more organic and natural feel. On rotation, the taro leaf veins formed the letters “b” and “d” of webdew.
While this was an interesting discovery, we ultimately decided that this concept wasn't the best fit for our brand.
Concept 3
One concept that really caught our attention was the “dewdrop” idea. We wanted to create a logo that represents growth and expansion. The concept involved a dewdrop falling and spreading further into six tiny dew drops, later forming the letters of webdew.
While we liked this concept, we weren't completely satisfied with it and wanted to explore other options before making a final decision.
Concept 4
We also explored a concept that focused on the letters “b” and “d.” In this concept, we removed the dot from the “b” in webdew to represent the dot com of our website address. An up arrow was used to symbolize growth, with the tagline “webdew = Growth on Web.” The logo was arranged in a mirrored image to create a sense of symmetry.
Negative spaces were carved out of the letters “b” and “d” and placed upwards to represent increased online traffic. The tagline “In the Business of Clicks Economy” reinforced our focus on helping businesses grow their online presence.
While we had found a concept that captured our focus on the letters “b” and “d,” we still needed to refine the design to ensure it fully represented our brand personality and goals. The next stage of the redesign process involved designing the logo and making further upgrades.
Stage 2: Designing
With the concept of focusing on the letters “b” and “d” finalized, we moved on to the designing stage. We wanted to create a visually appealing and impactful logo that would effectively convey our brand message. Inspired by the idea of infinite possibilities, we decided to incorporate an infinity sign into the design.
The infinity sign, with its continuous loop, symbolizes the endless growth and potential that webdew offers to our clients. We carefully crafted the curves of the “b” and “d” to seamlessly form the loops of the infinity sign. This integration not only added a touch of elegance but also reinforced our commitment to continuous progress and success.
Stage 3: Design upgradation
While incorporating the infinity concept, we still felt that something was missing. We wanted to capture the essence of connection and collaboration, so we introduced the idea of interlinking.
By carefully blending the curves and lines of the “b” and “d” in our logo, we created a sense of unity and teamwork. This symbolizes the strong bond between our clients, partners, and webdew. We believe in building relationships and achieving growth together.
We paid close attention to the finer details during the design process, ensuring that the interlinking elements were seamlessly integrated into the overall logo. We fine-tuned the curves, angles, and proportions to achieve a balanced and visually appealing composition.
Stage 4: Color selection
During Stage 4 of our logo redesign process, we took a deep dive into colors to find the perfect palette for our new logo. With enthusiasm and curiosity, we set out on a color exploration journey. We wanted colors that would not only represent our brand's identity but also evoke the right emotions and values.
Here are a few color combinations that we played around with.
Stage 5: Final reveal
Finally, the moment you've been waiting for has arrived! Drumroll, please! Presenting our new logo, adorned with the timeless shades of blue that have been an integral part of our brand's identity.
