Quillbot Review: Is Quillbot AI worth the investment in 2024?

Quillbot paraphrasing tool has risen to the top of every content writer’s search list for the past few years. With over 50 million users worldwide, Quillbot has become one of the most desired writing and paraphrasing tools. 

From content writers and students to researchers, many professionals prioritize Quillbot in the world of writing and paraphrasing software. 

Do you know why? It’s because Quillbot comes with fantastic features that can help you become a pro writer, even if your writing is terrible. 

What could be better than using AI paraphrasing tools to paraphrase boring texts into engaging and attractive content?

Well, before you get started with Quillbot, you need to know if you can rely on it. I have been using Quillbot for the past three years, so as an experienced user, I will give my unbiased and honest Quillbot review. 

This review of Quillbot will focus on its features, what Quillbot offers, pros and cons, and many more. Let’s get started.

Examining Quillbot features

Whether you’re a student trying to paraphrase any specific paragraph or a content writer looking to make your writing more engaging, Quillbot AI writing and paraphrasing may be able to help you. 

Quillbot comes with numerous features for effective and easy content organization. Let’s discuss these features in detail. I will also provide my verdict about each feature. 

1. Paraphraser

This is perhaps the most eye-catching feature of Quillbot AI writing tool. The paraphrasing tool from Quillbot basically helps writers change a text while retaining the core message. 

As it doesn’t require any sign-up, it can be an excellent tool for students and researchers.

Options like ‘More Changes’ and ‘Fewer Changes’ are also available, with paid users receiving the maximum adjustments. 

The Paraphraser has nine unique writing modes, each designed to address the specific needs of the users. Depending on your writing quality, these modes can enhance the readability and quality of your content. 

Here are the modes available in Paraphraser:

The first two modes (Standard and Fluency) come with the free plan of Quillbot. If you do need to use the latter, you need to purchase the Quillbot premium plan. 

Let’s know these two modes in detail. 

1.1 Standard

The Standard Mode is the default setting of Quillbot Paraphraser. Standard Mode will paraphrase a sentence to enhance its fluency and clarity while retaining the original meaning. 

Here’s the result from the Standard Mode. Keep in mind that the response is generated with a low synonym bar. 

After I gave the sentence and clicked the Rephrase button, Quillbot generated a result almost instantly. 

While tweaking the Synonyms bar at the top won’t affect your content, higher synonyms mean you’re allowing Quillbot to change the words of your sentence more aggressively. 

Let's take another example.

Even though Quillbot gave me a satisfactory result, I was very skeptical about it. Hence, I checked it on Grammarly. Here's the result from Grammarly Premium.

As you can see, Grammarly also stated the result is grammatical error-free. This is a huge relief for me.

But what about plagiarism? As Quillbot is using synonyms to paraphrase the sentences, will they always be plagiarism-free? Take a look at this screenshot.

Surprisingly, the results are also plagiarism-free. As I have Grammarly Premium, I can rely on its results.

However, I found a catch while testing the output on Hemingway.

As you can see, the readability is of grade 10, which is significantly higher. This means that people will face problems reading and understanding the yellow-marked sentence.

Now, let's see the result Quillbot gave me after I chose the higher Synonyms bar. 

If you compare these two results, you will notice that Quillbot paraphrased larger blocks of content in the higher Synonyms mode. 

Here's another example.

For my peace of mind, I decided to run this text in Grammarly to see how accurate the output is. And this is where things got a little more interesting.

Grammarly stated that the sentence structure is not correct and requires rephrasing. I agree with it because the sentence really doesn't look accurate.

Now it's time for a plag check.

This Quillbot paraphrased output is also plagiarism-free. Now let's see Hemingway result.

This time the paraphrased sentence isn't bad at all. The Hemingway score is also good.

1.2 Fluency

If you choose the Fluency Mode, Quillbot will paraphrase content to make it more grammatically correct and readable. 

Fluency Mode will make minor changes, correcting the grammar and making the sentence sound more natural. 

The synonyms will also be more minimal, ultimately preserving the original tone and clarity of the content. 

Here’s how the Fluency Mode paraphrased my article extract. 

In my opinion, the content looks more appealing in Fluent Mode. Apart from enhancing fluency, Quillbot also kept synonyms at a minimum level. 

Let us see another paraphrase example.

Now it's time for Grammarly score.

While the content isn't grammatically wrong, Grammarly gave a few suggestions to improve the clarity and tone. Nothing to be concerned about.

And as usual, it's also plagiarism-free. I am starting to believe that none of the output generated by Quillbot will get plagiarism.

However, Hemingway's result broke my heart.

I didn't expect to get a grade 10 readability again. Perhaps it's because this paragraph contains 4 sentences. Breaking it into two parts can solve this problem.

1.3 Paraphrase Statistics

Quillbot Paraphraser has a Statistics feature that will help you gain insights into the readability and complexity of the texts. 

You will find the Statistics option on the right side of the screen. 

Let’s take a look at the Statistics part provided by Quillbot. 

Here, I have used the same content from the Fluency Mode. As you can see, Quillbot gave me a detailed statistics part. 

The Statistics feature of Quillbot contains the following aspects:

If you have a premium subscription, you can also use Tone analysis, which will determine the readers' perception and boost the effectiveness of persuasive writing. 

If you don't want to opt in for a premium plan, you can choose free AI writing tools.

1.4 Settings

Just like the Statistics feature, you will find Settings on the left side of your screen. 

Quillbot’s Paraphraser Settings will help you determine the paraphrasing level of your content as well as the displayed results. 

Tweaking the Settings would prove highly beneficial if you’re unsatisfied with the paraphrased content. 

Let’s take a look at the contained aspects in the Settings. 

In terms of changing the Paraphrase settings, you can choose three options:

• Paraphrase quotations
• Use contractions
• Prefer active voice

In my opinion, you should enable the ‘Prefer active voice’ option so that Quillbot can include more active voices in the paraphrased content. 

Under the Interface section, you can choose from the following settings:

• Use yellow highlight
• Show tooltips
• Show legend
• Show changed words
• Show structural damages
• Show the longest unchanged words

Use these settings wisely, as they can give you more control over your content. You can also identify the changes quickly. 

1.5 Hotkeys

This is basic stuff. Nevertheless, I decided to cover it. 

The Hotkeys will contain all of your basic commands or keyboard shortcuts. 

For example, I use a Macbook, and Quillbot gave me a few keyboard shortcut settings to help me with the copy-paste process. However, the Mac hotkey for copying sentences needs to be corrected (We use Cmd + C).

If you use a Windows PC, your Hotkeys will differ from mine. 

1.6 Paraphrasing in different languages

Quillbot supports 26 different languages for your paraphrasing purposes. 

Thanks to the availability of multiple languages, you won’t face any problems accessing the tool for your needs. It will also prove helpful when you’re using Quillbot’s Translator tool. 

In addition to that, you can also change your writing language. 

Go to the top right corner of your screen, and you will see a flag icon. 

Hover your mouse over this icon, and a pop-up will appear at the bottom left corner of your screen. 

From there, you can also change your writing language. 

The Paraphrase feature of Quillbot has been covered. Now, let's head to the Grammar Checker. Let's see if Quillbot can live up to my expectations.

2. Grammar Checker

Apart from Paraphraser, Quillbot Grammar Checker tool is also free. To make things more interesting, you don’t need to worry about signing up. 

If you paste any text into Quillbot’s editor, it will review the content and highlight the grammatical errors. 

When you use the tool correctly for grammar check, you can enhance writing consistency and precision. 

Let’s take an example of how Quillbot can check grammatical errors and make your content more appealing. 

The Grammar Checker will also highlight the potential grammatical errors in red, simplifying the editing process. 

In addition to that, Quillbot provides the instant correct feature, which will save me time and improve productivity. 

If you don’t want to correct all grammar mistakes manually, click on the Fix Errors option. This will correct multiple errors simultaneously. 

This is what your content will look like once you fix all the grammatical errors. 

The grammar-checking feature will undoubtedly help content writers develop error-free and professional content. 

The second most useful Quillbot feature is also covered. Now let's see Co-Writer, another Quillbot feature which you may find helpful.

3. Co-Writer

The Co-Writer integrates QuillBot’s various tools into a single writing environment. 

This consolidated space enables paraphrasing, summarizing, citation creation, and essay writing without the need to switch between different platforms. 

Moreover, it incorporates online research, note-taking features, and AI-powered autocomplete, offering users a smooth writing and research process without requiring them to navigate away from the page.

Let’s take a look at the Quillbot’s Co-Writer dashboard. 

Using Co-Writer will help you save not only time but also effort. 

If you’re writing something new in this doc, you can start your research process right from the dashboard. 

Click on the Research button, and you will have access to real-time internet. You can also toggle between Academic and Non-academic searches as per your needs. 

Let’s imagine a scenario where you’re facing writer’s block. You need something to get started with, and you don’t want to rely on ChatGPT. 

This is where the Suggest Text option (bottom middle of the screen) will come in handy. 

When you click the Suggest Text option, a pop-up will open, asking you to give a prompt. Here, I gave a generic prompt to look at how effectively it can generate content. 

To my surprise, Quillbot actually generated some content which may help me get started with my blog post. It’s also highlighting the grammatical errors, which I can complete from the same dashboard. 

If you’re not satisfied with the content, you can click on the Thunderbolt image mentioned below. 

This will open a pop-up, and you will get a couple of options to enhance your content further. Here’s the image:

Depending on your requirements, you can choose any of these options to make your content more refined. 

From paraphrasing to summarizing, the Co-Writer can handle everything. On top of that, this feature is available in the free version of Quillbot. 

With its intuitive interface and comprehensive features, Co-Writer is an essential tool for anyone who wants to take their writing to the next level.

4. Summarizer

The Quillbot Summarizer tool reduces lengthy articles and sentences into meaningful and concise summaries. This feature is beneficial for researchers, students, and professionals. 

Just like Paraphraser, the Summarizer tool also comes with unique customizable options. 

For instance, users can choose between Short summarization and Long summarization, depending on their required summarized detail. 

Let me explain by giving an example. I will start with a short summarization first. 

Here, I gave Quillbot a paragraph and asked it to paraphrase. As you can see, the summarization is set to short. 

Consequently, Quillbot gave me a concise summarization covering essential content elements. 

Now, let’s take a look at the long summarization. 

This is the result of a long summarization. While the output isn’t drastically different from the short summarization, it covers a few more elements. 

If you don’t want Quillbot to summarize the content as paragraphs, you can choose the Key Sentences option. 

When you choose this option, Quillbot will summarize by determining the key sentences of your content. You can find Quillbot helpful in churning out the most important elements from any chunk of text. 

You can also change the length of your summary by adjusting the summary length at the top right side of the screen. 

In addition, if you need to incorporate any specific keyword into your summarized content, you can do it, too. 

Go to the Select Keywords option at the bottom left corner of your screen, and you will find all the necessary keywords there. 

For instance, I have chosen the keyword: large business. As a result, Quillbot generated summarized content containing the chosen keyword. 

You can choose multiple keywords as per your needs. However, the keyword feature is unavailable for the Key Sentences option. 

Overall, QuillBot Summarizer is a robust and user-friendly tool that can significantly enhance your reading efficiency and information absorption.

5. Citation Generator

The Citation Generator tool of Quillbot can simplify the complicated processes of citing resources in professional and academic writing. 

You can choose from various citation formats and styles as per your scientific and educational requirements. 

Thanks to this feature, you don’t need to worry about finding accurate source attribution or research papers. 

The tool also covers standard MLA, APA, Chicago Manual Style, and many more, helping you cover reference types like websites and books. 

With an eye-catching interface, it can generate texts and complete citations within a matter of seconds. 

If you need to export the citations, you can click on the download icon, and it will exported to Microsoft Word.

It also comes with integrated writing tools, which will provide accurate translation. As it’s free, business owners and content creators can use it for research and writing. 

To determine the effectiveness of the Translator, I added a paragraph in Japanese. 

As soon as I pasted the Japanese text, Quillbot Translator immediately detected the language automatically. I didn’t have to choose the source language manually. 

After you give your desired language, you only need to click on the Translate button on the right side. 

Let's translate another sentence to know if the accuracy is persistent.

I can confirm that Quillbot translated these texts with 100% accuracy because I took this content block from my article. 

In addition to translation, Quillbot also paraphrased the content slightly, making it more engaging and easy to understand. 

Translation is not the last feature. Next, we will discuss the Quillbot extensions, which are capable of streamlining your paraphrasing process.

In my opinion, installing the extensions as per your requirements will prove highly beneficial, primarily when you use Quillbot frequently.

7.1 Quillbot for Chrome

Quillbot for Chrome is an excellent tool if you’re fond of online writing. Quillbot Chrome extension can be integrated directly into your web browser, helping you to paraphrase, check grammatical errors, and summarize online documents. 

Apart from that, you can also use it for social media posts and emails. Quillbot makes sure your content is error-free and polished across the internet. 

7.2 Quillbot for Word

If you have Microsoft Word and want to work offline, installing Quillbot for Word will help you leverage the full benefits of Quillbot. 

Available in the Microsoft Store, Quillbot allows you to create engaging reports, documents, essays, and articles, assuring your content is crisp and clear. 

The best part is that you don’t need an internet connection.

Macbook users can install a desktop application. This will be browser-free. This standalone tool will boost your writing quality.

Now that you know every available feature in Quillbot, you may be wondering if this tool is all about benefits. But hold your horses as I will share a few limitations that I have found.

Pros and cons of Quillbot

While Quillbot comes with some unique features, there is something else you need to know about it. 

Like any other AI tool, Quillbot has advantages and disadvantages. Some people like Quillbot, whereas others don’t. 

Even though I like Quillbot, remember that I have never supported plagiarism. You should never copy someone else’s work and use Quillbot to paraphrase it. 

You should only use Quillbot when you’re unsatisfied with your writing and want to change it slightly.

If you need to rewrite any content frequently, create summaries of content or create a blog introduction, Quillbot can prove highly beneficial for you. 

However, if you plan to use Quillbot as a grammar checker, I recommend using Grammarly, which is exclusively made to rectify grammar mistakes.

Fortunately, Quillbot isn’t an exclusive grammar checker but also comes with other features. Hence, authors may extract something good out of it.
