How you can create and monitor Twitter streams in HubSpot

HubSpot uses Twitter streams to monitor conversations on Twitter and display them in the social monitoring tool. You can create your own stream and also can view streams of your timeline, mentions, retweets, and sent messages. Creating Twitter streams helps you to attract more visitors to your website by creating content based on the conversations you track online. 

How to create a new Twitter stream

  • Go to Marketing > Social in your HubSpot account.
  • Click the Monitoring tab.
  • Go to Create stream under Twitter Streams in the left sidebar.
  • Enter the Stream Name.

Select whose tweets to monitor

Click the dropdown Show me tweets from to decide which group of Twitter users to target with this stream. There are three options for whose tweets you can monitor:

  • All of Twitter: This will let HubSpot search and listen to tweets from everyone on Twitter for any of the words you decide.
  • A Twitter List: This will let HubSpot search and listen to one of your public Twitter lists.
  • A HubSpot contact list: This will let HubSpot search and listen to one of your HubSpot lists.

Twitter Account

This is the Twitter account that you have connected with your HubSpot account.

That Contains

Here you have to enter keywords to listen for. Use commas or tabs to separate multiple keywords. If you enter more than one keyword, a tweet will be included in your stream if it contains any keyword you have entered.

Advanced options

For additional options, click Advanced options. The additional filter options when selecting All of Twitter are:

  • Required keywords: the stream will only return tweets that include the keywords entered into this field. 
  • Exclude keywords: the stream will only include tweets that do not contain this keyword. 
  • Hide tweets from these accounts: your stream will exclude tweets from accounts that you add here. This option can be used to filter out the tweets from your own employees.
  • Written in: the stream will include tweets that meet your criteria, but only if they are tweeted in the language that you select here.

Stream notifications

Set up stream to notify certain recipients whenever matches happen.

  • Select the Email checkbox.
  • Click the dropdown Notification frequency: 8am, or 8am & 4pm, to select when the notification email should be sent.
  • Click the dropdown Notify users to select users in your account who should be sent the notification email.

How to manage your Twitter streams

Once you are done created Twitter streams, you can manage them by editing or deleting them.

Edit your Twitter stream

  • Go to Marketing > Social in your HubSpot account.
  • Click the Monitoring tab.
  • Go to a Twitter stream in the left sidebar.
  • Click Edit next to the stream name at the top.
  • You can edit the various options on the left side of the stream.
  • When done with editing, click Save in the bottom left.

Delete your Twitter stream

  • Go to Marketing > Social in your HubSpot account.
  • Click the Monitoring tab.
  • Go to a Twitter stream in the left sidebar.
  • Click Edit next to the stream name at the top.
  • Click Delete stream at the bottom.
  • Click Delete in the new box.

Interact with tweets in your streams

You can reply to, retweet, or quote tweets in your Twitter streams as if you were reacting directly from your Twitter account.

Reply

  • Click Reply at the bottom of the tweet to reply to a tweet.
  • In the text box, type your reply and click Reply at the bottom.

Retweet

Click Retweet at the bottom of a tweet to retweet a tweet to send it to your follower base.

Quote

  • Click Quote at the bottom of the tweet to quote a tweet.
  • In the composer panel, add your own content.
  • Click Publish post now (or Schedule post).
